Chapter 6
Catherine and Vincent stood on the roof of her apartment building. Below
them, Heather was wishing Darius a good night after their dinner.
"I am so sorry, Vincent! I had no idea she was planning on inviting
him. God! My bosses brother! If he were to find out the truth about you....."
Catherine was rambling on. Vincent placed his hand over her lips, stopping
her.
"Easy, love. Relax. He didn't suspect anything, and I didn't give him enough
information to arouse his suspicion. It will be fine. I promise," he told her.
She sighed, nodding her head. He smirked, and pulled his hand away.
"But, what if..." Catherine started, before she found herself silenced again,
this time by his lips. She reached up, wrapping her arms around the back of his
neck. He growled, and pulled her tightly against him. She moaned as his tongue
licked at her lips. She opened and his tongue delved inside, caressing hers.
A few minutes later, he stepped back. Catherine whimpered from the loss of
contact. She moved forward, seeking his warmth. Vincent chuckled, and held her
at bay. Catherine pouted, and Vincent shook his head.
"If we keep that up, I probably won't want to go home tonight," Vincent told
her gently.
"Who said you have to? Maybe I want you to stay," Catherine told him
suggestively.
"Heather..." he reminded her. Catherine sighed, clearly irritated.
"Sometimes I hate having my nosy sister as a roommate. Sometimes I would love
to bring a guy home, screw him senseless and not worry about the 50 questions
from my sister the next day," Catherine told him. Vincent's eyebrow raised.
Catherine's eyes widened. "I meant......not just any guy. Geez, I'm not that
kind of woman. You know I meant you. I wish I could bring you home
without the 50 questions. Ah....damn it...." Catherine muttered, realizing the
hole she had dug herself into.
Vincent couldn't stop the laughter that escaped him. He watched as Catherine
turned 5 shades of red, and then she looked at the ground, clearly embarrassed.
He stepped forward, and lifted her chin gently. Leaning down, he looked into her
hazel eyes.
"I wish you could bring me home too....without the 50 questions," he told her
softly. Catherine smiled slightly, and Vincent pulled her closer, enveloping her
within the shelter of his arms. They swayed back and forth, lost in their own
world.
A few minutes later, Vincent stepped back. He sighed. "Heather is looking for
you. You better get back downstairs."
"Will I see you again later?"
"Of course. After Heather goes to bed, call me," Vincent told her, leaning
down to kiss her again. Pulling away, he headed toward the side of the roof. At
the edge, he looked back. "Love you."
"Love you too. Talk to you soon," Catherine said. Vincent smiled and then
vaulted over the edge of the building. Catherine shook her head, always amazed
at his ability to do that. She headed back to her apartment, and bracing
herself, opened the door.

Later that night, after Heather had gone to bed, Vincent and Catherine were
stretched out on her bed, talking and cuddling.
"I swear, she was like a dog with a bone! I was about to call you to get your
tranq gun, for pete's sake!" Catherine stated. Vincent shook with silent
laughter. She glared at him. "It's not funny. Be glad you had brothers
instead of a sister. I bet they never got this involved in your love
life!"
Vincent sobered instantly. He shook his head. "Believe me, brothers aren't
any better. As the youngest, I was always getting unwanted advice, even though I
had been the first one to get into a relationship. My brothers were relentless.
I can almost hear all the questions and advice they would be giving me about
you."
Catherine studied him. "I'm sorry. I know you miss them terribly."
Vincent pulled her closer. "Yes, and I always will. But, I have you now, so
I'll never be alone again."
Catherine sighed and nuzzled her face into his chest. "Have I told you how
glad I am you chose me?"
Vincent kissed the top of her head. "I'll always choose you, sweetheart. You
are my first, last and only choice."
